There are some rather large differences between Freetype and Photoshop's rendering of the Fira font.
You need to set your image in Photoshop to be 96 DPI. The newer version of Freetype appears to render a closer version. Re-evaluate this inconsistency after we upgrade Freetype to 2.6.
