There have been a number of complaints about the time it takes to build projects on the Mac - the consistent theme as in the additional URL - is that the editor is thrashing compressing textures. It is taking many times longer than Windows. Thankfully the problem is ours - we've been shipping debug binaries of nvTT.
Open any new project - esp. large ones. Watch your editor crawl through texture compression.
