When a shadow casting light is closer to the groom than some proportional amount the groom is away from the shadow catcher, the groom's shadow will disappear.
This only occurs using VSMs. Raytraced shadows or legacy shadow maps do not exhibit this issue.
1. Open Unreal Engine version 5.3.2 (with Virtual Shadow Maps enabled)
2. Import any Metahuman using Groom
3. Disable LODSync for the Groom
4. Place a Point Light to the left of the Metahuman and any shadow catcher (any geometry) to the right
5. Play with the distances between light and metahuman and metahuman and wall
6. Find the spots where the Hair Strand's shadow disappears
