In a scene without a sky sphere, increasing the skylight intensity will cause the sky to brighten in the pathtracer. Other renderers do not brighten the sky, and the intensity increase is applied only to the lighting contribution from the skylight.
This does not occur with a sky sphere; however, volumetric clouds do not render in a sky sphere with the pathtracer.
1. Create a default level in either engine version listed
2. Remove the sky sphere
3. Increase the sky light intensity
4. Set a constant exposure
5. Enable the pathtracer
Any objects in the scene be similarly lit in terms of brightness, but the sky in the pathtracer will be brighter. The same should apply in inverse when decreasing the skylight.
