When rendering a custom depth post process material Hierarchical Instanced Static Meshes will not use this even if they have been enabled to do so.
Sample Project attached.
1. Open UE4
2. Create a BP with a Hierarchical Instanced Static Mesh
3. Set the Mesh to render in Custom Depth
4. Place in scene
5. Set up Post Process Custom Depth Material (Image attached if needed)
6. Add a Post Process Volume to the scene set to unbound
7. Add the Post Process Material to the Blendables section
If using the sample project
1. Open Sample Project
2. Move into Post Process Volume
Results: HISM should render in the custom depth will not be highlighted or visualized in the custom depth visualization buffer view.
Expected: The HISM should be visible when using a custom depth if it has been enabled.
