A possible fix was mentioned by stororokw in this forum thread. https://forums.unrealengine.com/showthread.php?133690-DFAO-with-characters Feel free to try it out as a workaround until this is addressed officially.

Description

The dynamic shadow distance will change the falloff for back lighting on the hair material. The parameters listed for back lighting occlusion in the material graph didn't seem to have any effect.

Steps to Reproduce
  1. Open attached project
  2. Open TestMap
  3. Position camera so that the light source is behind the hair like in attached screenshots
  4. Change the dynamic shadow distance on the directional light

RESULT
The back lighting changes its falloff.

EXPECTED
The back lighting is unaffected by the dynamic shadow distance.
